EMDR Therapy - A gentle, effective path to healing
How EMDR Therapy helps
EMDR Therapy supports your brain to gently and safely process difficult memories, easing
the emotional and physical intensity they carry. By working with both past memories and
present-day triggers that keep you feeling stuck, EMDR Therapy supports you to become
more grounded, confident and resilient as you navigate future challenges.
EMDR Therapy is a well-established, evidence-based therapy helpful for:
-
Trauma, PTSD, and complex PTSD
-
Anxiety, panic and phobias
-
Grief and loss
-
Depression
-
Childhood and attachment wounds
It is a therapy designed to help you heal at your own pace, with compassion and support.
What to expect in an EMDR Therapy session
EMDR Therapy is a structured, yet flexible therapy that follows an eight-phase process.
Each phase has a clear purpose, and together they create a supportive, safe and
manageable structure for healing.
Phase 1 – History and planning
We explore your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy to create a treatment
plan that fits your needs.
Phase 2 – Preparation
You learn grounding and emotional regulation strategies to help you feel confident, safe and
supported as we move into deeper work.
Phase 3 – Assessment
We identify the target memory we will focus on, along with the associated thoughts,
emotions and body sensations to help us understand how the memory is stored and how it
affects you today.
Phase 4 – Desensitisation
Bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or gentle tapping) is used as you bring the
target memory to mind, while your brain begins to desensitise and reprocess it. Many
people notice the memory becomes less distressing and more distant.
Phase 5 – Installation
We strengthen healthier, more adaptive thoughts, and replace old patterns that may have
developed during difficult experiences. This helps integrate new ways of thinking and
feeling.
Phase 6 – Body scan
You check in with your body to notice any remaining physical tensions, and we work to
release these sensations, so your body can feel more at ease.
Phase 7 – Closure
Each session ends with grounding and stabilisation strategies, ensuring you leave feeling
calm, supported, and ready to return to your day.
Phase 8 – Re-evaluation
At the start of your next session, we review how things have changed and what feels
different. This helps guide the next steps.
Benefits of EMDR Therapy
EMDR Therapy is widely recognised for its effectiveness, and is recommended by leading
mental health organisations. Rather than focusing on surface-level symptoms, EMDR
Therapy supports you to address the root causes of distress, helping the brain to process
and heal past experiences.
EMDR Therapy can be deeply transformative. Many people find that it helps them build
resilience and confidence, reduce emotional distress, calm the nervous system, and ease
intrusive memories. It offers a supportive way toward feeling more grounded, confident, and
at ease in daily life.

She commonly works with clients experiencing trauma-related conditions including Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, complex trauma, and acute stress responses.
Through EMDR therapy, Tracey helps clients process unresolved experiences, reduce present-day triggers, and support recovery so past events have less impact on current wellbeing and future life experiences.
